Hey friends and fans,
since the weather rides roughshod over us, nice Groninger people, we should get together and still make the summer start in this city. There a lot of nice outdoor events coming up this May and June which might not really suiting the current weather forecast but who cares. I mean “we are young, and wild and free” and the weather needs to be ignored then if we start to ignore it, it can not bother us any more!
Holland has a temperate maritime climate. That’s why our summers are relatively cool (an average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius), our winters not extremely cold (average temperature of -0.9 degrees Celsius) . Also, as you may have noticed, it rains a lot! It is typically Dutch to discuss (and complain!) about the weather.
On 30th April, the Netherlands, along with the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, will celebrate their national holiday known as Queen’s Day, or Koninginnedag in Dutch. It is Queen Beatrix’s official birthday, although 30th April was actually the birthday of her mother and predecessor, Juliana.
With temperatures rising slowly here are some tips for some nice upcoming outdoor events and of course some nice spots where you can enjoy the sunshine when it is getting warm in Groningen!
Due to this years Summer Olympic Games in London ESN Groningen took its chances and organizes in corporation with the Aclo two fabulous events under the motto “The International Games" at the Aclo sport centre and the Equipo theme party "Olympic games" at the Drie Gezusters. For all the sporty or sport interested people out there in Groningen I decided that it is my personal obligation to give you all a brief crash course in Olympic Games history, so everyone is optimally prepared for next week and the games can officially begin!
Yesterday, I went and visited the offices of Humanitas.
It’s a small world after all – Join the International week!
Hello, goede morgen, hallo, bonjour, buenos días...
Last week the Equipo Fiesta organized another fabulous theme party under the motto “Around the world”.
One benefit from the melting pot and “everythings grows together” is that we can now eat food from all over the world, try some nice food from India (thanks Aman), learn how to cook real pasta from Italiens and even know how to make traditional Japanese sushi.
Food makes the world grow together and let us learn something about other countries and cultures.
Welcome new internationals,
hope all of you have a wonderful time in the Netherlands so far.
In the beginning of the first and second semester ESN organises an introduction week for all the new international students. Thereby ESN helps the arriving internationals to reorientate in a new environment, make Dutch and international friends and help them to make their first impression of their new "home" country.
