Beatrix out, Maxima in

One couldn’t have missed it: Queen Beatrix is abducting her throne. She announced that it was time for a new generation and that Willem Alexander will take over. Prince Willem Alexander is a fine bloke, but what are we gonna do without our dear Queen? She is the mother of all Dutch people! She is so kind and caring. And with an haircut like that, who wouldn’t love you?

Since we normally only see our mother on tv, being able to meeting the queen is something special. Although we all know she is a very normal person (it has been said that she is quite a heavy smoker, imagine that), there is an air of mystery and class around here. Imagine that you would accidently say something stupid, stumble, or burp in her presence. That would be devastating.

I can say that I once met Queen Beatrix. Okay, I admit it: I didn’t really meet her. I didn’t talk to her or anything, but I was in her close presence for quite some time. I just like to think that I met her. She looked very sweet and beautiful in real life. And small! Although I am not a big royalty fan, I was really excited about seeing her and maybe I was even a bit jealous of my friend, who was picked to give her a bouquet.

We will miss her, but luckily our new queen is even more awesome. The very beautiful and charming Maxima! Forget about the slightly boring Willem Alexander, Maxima is in power. It are the women of the royal family that are stealing the show nowadays. I think we will do pretty fine with our Maxima for the years coming.
