Board

Are you ready for a challenging board year?

The board exists of six enthusiastic people who are full time  in charge of the organization for one entire year. That means you decide on the long term vision, supervise the committees, take care of all the financial issues and you are in contact with partners, the international ESN network and other student organizations. As being one of the four student facilities of the University of Groningen you’ll work closely with them, but also with the Hanze University of Applied Sciences.

The board is finally responsible for all the activities ESN Groningen and its committees organize. Every board member is in charge of one or more committees and in this way adds to the coordination and alignment within ESN Groningen.

Furthermore the board is responsible for the organization of the big introduction weeks for the newly arrived students in Groningen. These take place in the beginning of September and the beginning of February. In September over 1000 people take part in the introduction week, and in February another 450. This can be a big challenge.

Next to your work for ESN you will also enjoy the rich social life of being in a student board in Groningen, you’ll be in touch with a lot of other associations in Groningen and you will participate in many University related matters. As a reward for your effort as a board member you will receive a financial compensation by the University for your study delay.

How much time will it cost?

The board of ESN is working full time for ESN. As a board member you will receive financial compensation by the University for your study delay. Next to your ESN year it is possible to follow one or two courses or work for a few hours a week, however take into account that being an ESN board member will take a lot of time. Every board member has his or hers own work place at the office and is expected to be there on work days from 10 till 17. Besides these hours you will spend a considerable amount of time on ESN activities in evenings and weekend. The Monday night you will spend at the ESN Student Night at our hang out De Drie Gezusters. Once every three weeks there is a theme party and a pub quiz and there are 4 weekend excursions and 7 day excursions. This sounds like a lot, but it is really fun to experience! You will also be in contact with the other ESN sections in the Netherlands and Europe, through this you will get a lot of inspiration for Groningen’s own ESN section.

Losing an entire year? Not at all! You’ll receive a lot in return:

- Networking possibilities on national and international level
- Gaining experience in pratical work
- A financial compensation
- Great addition to your CV
- A great appreciation from the international student crowd

What do the specific positions mean?

Every board member has a specific position in the board and corresponding tasks, but in the end you organize everything together and the six of you are finally responsible for the organization of the ESN introduction weeks. Here you will get the ultimate opportunity to develop your personal skills by organizing different events and activities. Thanks to the variety of activities that ESN Groningen organizes your days will never be boring. You’ll get all the freedom to develop your organizational skills. Together with the five other board members you’ll give the international students the time of their life in Groningen while having an amazing time yourself!
