What to expect this day

Walk around the world
You know you want to go abroad, but still have no idea where you would like to go? The walk around the world will guide you through five different worlds: ‘Calientes’, ‘Close to home’, ‘Ni Hao’, ‘Cold War’ and ‘Queen Elisabeth’. We will leave it to your imagination which countries will be there exactly (to reassure you: the most popular countries will be). While you follow the path along all these countries, make time to talk to the international students who would love to tell you everything about their home countries!

Information market
When you decide to go abroad, there are a lot of things you will have to arrange and keep in mind. Therefore, the information market will provide you information about the main topics you should be aware of. These topics are insurance, vaccinations, visa, grants and language programmes. So pass by these stands to get your information and talk to the experts!

Questionnaire ‘Find your country’
If you have walked ‘The walk around the world’, but still have no idea where you should go; our questionnaire could help you out! This questionnaire will identify the country that fits your character and lifestyle best.

Workshop ‘Because you can!’
Going abroad was a great experience. You got to know many people and made new friends, explored new cultures and learned a lot about yourself. That’s it? No.. Use this experience! Get tips how to communicate and present your qualification and skills: This workshop will help you to translate your period abroad to your resume.

Workshop ‘How does an experience abroad change you?’
Whilst the workshop ‘Because you can!’ gives you ideas on how to use your experience in your future career, this workshop focuses on how the experience might change your mind set. Abroad, your surroundings will change; a different culture, a different language, you will experience other habits than you are used to. You should make choices and think out of the box. How can you do this? This workshop will provide you with tips.

Workshop ‘How to deal with culture shock?’
When you go abroad, you will find yourself in a whole new environment. Local people do things differently than you are used to. You might experience a so called ‘Culture Shock’. Culture shock mostly contains several phases you will (un)consciously go through. This workshop gives you insight into this phenomenon and makes you aware of its existence, how to ‘recognise’ it and tips to deal with it!

Workshop ‘African dance’
Have you had enough information? Then join the African dance workshop. Here you will learn the basic steps of the African dance and clear your head for a moment. So swing your hips and dance the African dance!

Workshop ‘Speed dating’
Always wanted to learn another languages, but never had time or could not make up your mind which language to choose? Fifteen different international students will teach you some of the basics of their language during this workshop. But note; the clock is ticking! You only have 2 minutes per student to learn the basic words, so stay listen carefully.

Pub quiz
The final activity we organized, is a special pub quiz in the Cultural café (next to the Apple). What have you learned during this afternoon? Do you still remember the Spanish word for ‘Hello’ and at which time do the Italians have dinner? We will test your knowledge here! End the day with a free drink and a snack and talk to our international students and staff if you still have questions.

Explore other cultures and get yourself prepared to go abroad! See you at the Go on Exchange fair. For more information you can contact: ic@esn-groningen.nl. Sign up now!
