International organizations

AEGEE

Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l'Europe (AEGEE) is one of the biggest interdisciplinary student associations in Europe; it is represented by 15.000 students, active in 241 academic cities, in 40 countries all around Europe, which presents amazing culture variety. AEGEE is a secular, non-profit organization, not linked to any political party. All projects and activities are based on voluntarily work of its members.

AIESEC

AIESEC is the largest international student organization in the world. It was established shortly after the Second World War by seven countries, and is currently operating in more than 80 countries. AIESEC is represented by more than 15,000 students at more than 750 universities throughout the world. By means of global exchange AIESEC stimulates global cooperation and cultural understanding. Broaden your horizons with AIESEC!

ALAS - Association of Latin American Students

ALAS was founded in October 2010. It welcomes all students from the University of Groningen and Hanzehogeschool, not only from Latin America but also from other countries who are interested in knowing more about Latin America's culture and customs or just practice Spanish! ALAS offers a social and cultural network and is a perfect point of reference for those who consider to study in Groningen.

African Students Council

ASC is a Student Community in Groningen (Netherlands) aimed at, among others:

  • Uniting African Students studying at the University of Groningen (RuG).
  • Creating links between African students and other students studying in the RuG.
  • Creating awareness on global issues.
  • Stimulating integration through recreation activities.

International Student Council

One of the goals of the ISC is to gain insight into the problems, questions and difficulties international students encounter when studying at the RUG. In case of structural problems, we can either contact the departments directly or address the problems and possible solutions via the student representatives in the university council.

SIB (DUNSA)

DUNSA, the Dutch United Nations Student Association, SIB in Dutch, is the student organisation for international relations. With more than 300 members, it is the largest internationally orientated student organisation in Groningen. DUNSA gives its members the chance to meet politicians and other important actors of the international arena. Every week we organise different activities such as workshops, lectures, discussions and debates. Recent speakers have included Givi Taktakishvili, a former Georgian Minister of Economic Affairs, and Charles Groenhuijsen, former correspondent in the US for Dutch Broadcasting Organisation NOS. During a conference on the Millennium Development Goals we had live video contact with Jeffrey Sachs, the Special Advisor of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. Furthermore, we organise a trip to a foreign country every year, with the chance to visit embassies, ministries and NGO's.

TEIMUN

The European International Model United Nations (TEIMUN), is an annual United Nations simulation for university students across the globe. TEIMUN gives you the opportunity to experience the working and decision-making process of the United Nations through role-playing in one of the organs simulated, helping participants to gain a multicultural view of world affairs and to develop public speaking and debating skills.
