First newsletter of the Academy year!

Dear internationals,
 
Too bad this was your last week of your vacation, because today the academy year officially starts! I hope you all had an unforgettable holiday and welcome to all of you who had to say goodbye to their loved ones to come to The Netherlands to study here. Hopefully you’ll find your way in Groningen pretty fast so you won’t have to take it with you all the time!
 
For the ones who managed to get a spot in our introduction week, are you enjoying yourselves?! Already lost your voice? We have had a lot of luck with the weather! In The Netherlands you never know what to expect. After a fantastic pub-crawl on Friday night we had sports and cultural workshops on Saturday and Sunday, which might have been hard on some of you guys after a night of partying. Sunday night at the Simplon we had two cool bands performing, Pepper and Bad Boys. They rocked the house! In the meantime we had a karaoke and many groups could show-off their singing qualities. After the bands and the karaoke we had DJ’s Lukas und Tim with nice techno beats. But the introduction week is not over yet! Tonight we will have Dutch lessons and Intercambio at the Harmony building and a Dutch party at the &ZO. Tomorrow, the 7th of September, there will be a movie night at the cinema Pathé starting at 19.00 ‘o clock. The movie is still a surprise! On the last day of our introduction week is the final theme party, the theme is Surf’s up! The party will be at the Kokomo Beach club and will start at 22.00 ‘o clock. Everybody is welcome for this party! Hope to see you all!
 
But there is of course more than only the Introduction week! We also have lots of activities and excursions planned for September.

Other news:

 
Monday September 6 2010 at 17.15: all students are invited to attend the festive opening ceremony of the Academic Year 2010-2011. The opening ceremony will take place on Broerplein in front of the Academiegebouw, in the heart of Groningen. The programme will last until approximately 23.00 and consists of the following:  

• Speech Rector Magnificus
• Toast with free champagne
• Various artists

Come and watch professors and students celebrate the new academic year together and make a toast with the Rector Magnificus!
