Five places for the perfect Friday night in Groningen
Hey guys! We know it’s been a while, but the ESN Groningen Blog is back, up and running! As before, here you will be able to read about Groningen and what it has to offer, the events happening weekly, places you must visit, the delicious recipes from our international dinner events and more!
To kick off, let’s mention some of the most recent events ESN organized. Apart from the famous Introduction Week, which was once again a huge success (and a lot of fun!), last week Crazy 88 happened where a lot of international students had a chance to engage in some weird activities around Groningen and later indulge in pancakes at the Pannekoekschip! The week finished with a Chinese dinner where students were able to try new and delicious recipes and learn a bit about Chinese culture and cuisine.
Since this week we are organizing interesting music events I’ll stick with a theme and give you 5 music spots in Groningen to satisfy everyone’s taste!
Latino
If you are a fan of Latino music and would love to enjoy some of the typical summer hits even in gloomy Groningen, club Copas is the place to be! Every weekend they are open until the sun comes up. Recognizable not just by Latino beats but also by great atmosphere, the place won’t disappoint anyone who loves to dance. Also, every week they have different deals for drinks, so get your hips moving all the way to Copas!

Pop, house and alternative
The venue quite well known for some of the biggest names that played there (such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam) is, for sure, Vera. With its huge venue it attracts a great number of students who like to listen to alternative beats, DJs or live performances. It is unique as it has an old school vibe, yet the music varies from 70s, 80s and 90s to today’s hits. Be sure to check it out at least once whilst in Groningen!

Jazz, rock and more
Café the Crown is one of the most famous international places to hang out in. Apart from the diverse environment you will encounter, during the week they have different music nights varying from jazz to rock. And the best part of it is that the music is live! So if you are up for meeting new people whilst enjoying live performances, this is definitely a place to visit!

If you are looking for a modern, urban place where you can show off your great dancing skills or if you like listening to RnB and other popular music, club Enzo (&zo) is for you! It differs from other clubs in Groningen with its futuristic interior and will sure satisfy your music taste with great dance hits.

Karaoke
Now, if you love to sing or always wanted to try it (whether you are good at it or not), Groningen offers a few fun karaoke bars. There’s no need to reserve a room, because you can freely go in and have a great time with your friends! This is a great place to go to if you want to pick your own music, whether good old sing along hits or a new chart breaker. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to test your vocals in one of these bars!
