General information

Welcome to the ESN Groningen Introduction Week! The ESN Introduction Week is the perfect way to start your new semester in Groningen.

On behalf of Erasmus Student Network in Groningen, I would like to warmly welcome you to the most amazing student city in the Netherlands: Groningen. With Groningen’s undeniably vibrant and lively student culture, it is considered one of the most student-friendly and welcoming cities in the country. You are very lucky to start your student life here and experience all of what Groningen has to offer! Although student life has changed a little over the course of the past year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with all the activities and possibilities that you get to experience.

I can imagine that coming to a new city might be rather nerve-racking considering all the new impressions, habits, and language barriers. Just two years ago, I myself started my bachelors here in Groningen, not knowing a single word of Dutch or anything about the city. However, very quickly I was made to feel very welcome and integrated into the Dutch culture. There are so many possibilities and activities to get to know many new and amazing people who will make your time here in Groningen unforgettable. I would like to assure you of the same experience and welcome to Groningen as I had. ESN Groningen aims to support you in your process of getting to know the city and making this feel like your new home. We do this by organising a range of different social, cultural, and professional activities such as: parties, excursions, international dinners, student nights at Copas, pub quizzes, movie nights, and many more! Besides that, we also have a Buddy and Clubs Programme, as well as a Language Cafe.

However, ESN Groningen’s biggest event of the entire year is the organisation and hosting of the Introduction Week in September! This week includes many different and fun activities which will help you meet many great friends during your first week in the city. Therefore, make sure to read the booklet thoroughly, in order to be informed of all that is to come and is awaiting you! Furthermore, with the ongoing COVID-19 rules, ESN Groningen will assure you that all regulations will be followed. I am very glad you have signed up and are joining us in a fun week of activities and programmes, you won’t regret your decision!

You may have a lot of questions regarding the Introduction Week, ESN, or more in general, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask us! My fellow board members and I are looking forward to meeting you during the Introduction Week or one of our activities during the upcoming semester. I wish you a memorable ESN Introduction Week and hope you settle in nicely!

On behalf of the 34th ESN Groningen Board,

Hannah Jelkmann

President ESN Groningen Board 2021-2022
