Apply for the General Board 2024-2025

ESN Groningen is looking for new General Board members!

About ESN Groningen and its boards

ESN Groningen has multiple organs within its organisation. The General Board (GB) and the Executive Board (EB) are the most important bodies. The General Board is the supervisory board which means it’s the highest organ within ESN Groningen. It serves as a source of knowledge and experience for the Executive Board and checks what the Executive Board does at the same time. The main task of the General Board is to supervise and implement the long-term vision of ESN through a three-year strategic plan. Other tasks include checking and approving the policy, budget, and half-year and annual reports as proposed by the Executive Board. Besides that, you will help the Executive Board during events and most importantly – the Introduction Weeks of ESN Groningen, where your presence is necessary. Every General Board member is also part of a working group in line with their academic or professional background (more information about the working groups can be found in the brochure).

About being a General Board member at ESN Groningen

Being a General Board member is a part-time position. You will have an official meeting every 2 weeks for about 2 hours (currently, meetings take place every other week on Monday from 17:30 to 19:30). Next to that, you will regularly meet with your working group and you are expected to join the ESN Wednesdays and the ESN Theme Parties as much as possible. On average this takes about 20 to 30 hours per month, although tasks will be more intensive during the lead-up to and at the Introduction Weeks in February and September.

The General Board consists of an employee of the University of Groningen, an employee of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and around 10 students from different academic backgrounds. All members have different board, committee, academic, and professional experiences.

We are specifically looking for proactive students with a background in finance, acquisition, policy writing, and/or knowledge of the internal organs within the University of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences. Previous board and/or committee experience is desirable but not obligatory.

Being a member of the General Board will naturally provide you with valuable experience that will further enhance your resume. Additionally, your time with your fellow board members, the Executive Board, and all the international students in the city will undoubtedly be very fun!
